OpenAI announced the launch of the OpenAI Deployment Company, a new business unit aimed at helping organizations build and scale reliable artificial intelligence systems across mission-critical operations. The initiative marks a major expansion of OpenAI’s enterprise strategy as demand grows for AI tools that can be integrated into everyday business workflows.

The new company will focus on embedding specialized engineers, known as Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), directly into customer organizations. These teams will work alongside executives, operators, and frontline staff to redesign workflows, integrate AI into existing systems, and create long-term operational improvements powered by frontier AI models.

As part of the launch, OpenAI also agreed to acquire Tomoro, an applied AI consulting and engineering company with experience deploying AI systems for large enterprises including Tesco, Virgin Atlantic, and Supercell. The acquisition is expected to bring around 150 engineers and deployment specialists into the new organization, subject to regulatory approval.

The OpenAI Deployment Company launches with more than $4 billion in initial investment and backing from 19 global investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators. The partnership is led by TPG, alongside co-lead founding partners Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield.

Consulting firms including Bain & Company, Capgemini, and McKinsey & Company will also support the initiative.

OpenAI said the Deployment Company will remain majority-owned by OpenAI and serve as an extension of its research and product teams, helping businesses move faster from experimentation to full-scale AI deployment.
