Meta has announced a strategic partnership with Arm to develop a new class of CPUs aimed at supporting expanding AI workloads and general-purpose computing. CPUs, the central processors in computers, are critical for AI training and inference, and Meta says its data centers are quickly outgrowing the capabilities of traditional CPUs. Through this collaboration, the companies will co-develop multiple generations of advanced CPUs designed to deliver massive compute power in compact spaces, enabling AI-optimized data centers and large gigawatt-scale AI deployments that underpin Meta’s AI innovations.

The first product from this partnership, the Arm AGI CPU, marks Arm’s first-ever data center CPU specifically built for the AI era. The chip promises faster performance per rack and greater efficiency compared with legacy CPUs. Meta will act as lead partner and co-developer for the Arm AGI CPU, which is engineered to optimize infrastructure for Meta’s suite of apps while complementing its custom MTIA silicon. The CPU will also be made available to the wider AI ecosystem via Arm, and Meta plans to release the board and rack designs under the Open Compute Project later this year.

These new Arm CPUs will expand Meta’s growing silicon portfolio, strengthening its hardware stack to meet the demands of AI and help deliver AI-powered experiences to billions of users worldwide.

Santosh Janardhan, Head of Infrastructure, Meta

Delivering AI experiences at global scale demands a robust and adaptable portfolio of custom silicon solutions, purpose-built to accelerate AI workloads and optimize performance across Meta’s platforms. We worked alongside Arm to develop the Arm AGI CPU to deploy an efficient compute platform that significantly improves our data center performance density and supports a multi-generation roadmap for our evolving AI systems.

Rene Haas, CEO, Arm

AI is reshaping how data center infrastructure is built and deployed at scale. Our collaboration with Meta to co-develop the Arm AGI CPU reflects the next phase of the Arm compute platform — expanding into delivering production silicon CPUs optimized for large-scale agentic AI deployments. Together, we are combining Arm’s foundation of high-performance, power-efficient computing with Meta’s infrastructure expertise to support the next generation of AI systems.
