Meta has officially selected Tulsa as the home for its newest state-of-the-art AI data center, marking a landmark expansion into America's heartland. This facility represents Meta’s first data center in Oklahoma, its 28th in the U.S., and the 32nd in its global fleet. Optimized specifically for the high-intensity AI workloads that power global connectivity and business innovation, the project signals a massive shift in the region's technological landscape.
Economic Catalyst and Workforce Growth
The project is set to be an immense economic engine, representing a direct investment of over $1 billion. The impact on the local labor market will be immediate; Meta anticipates over 1,000 construction workers will be on-site at the height of development. Once operational, the center will support approximately 100 permanent high-tech jobs. Furthermore, the company is injecting $25 million into the community for local infrastructure improvements, specifically targeting upgrades to area roads and water systems.
To sustain this growth, Meta is launching a strategic partnership with Tulsa Tech and Tulsa Community College. This collaboration will establish a cross-institutional workforce development program and learning lab. The initiative is designed to create a yearly pipeline of over 200 graduates trained in specialized digital infrastructure fields, including fiber optics, structured cabling, and AI data analytics.
Pioneering Environmental Stewardship
Sustainability is central to the Tulsa facility’s design. The center will employ an advanced, water-efficient closed-loop liquid-cooling system. By recirculating the same water, the facility is expected to use zero water for the majority of the year.
By 2030, Meta aims to be water positive, restoring more water to local watersheds than it consumes. This commitment includes a ten-year partnership with Phytech to provide irrigation sensors to Tulsa-area farmers. This technology will help optimize yields for corn and wheat while saving an estimated 50 million gallons of water annually.
Community and Grid Support
Meta is also prioritizing social responsibility, partnering with the Tulsa Community Foundation to assist residents with water bill payments and service line repairs. On the energy front, Meta is adding 1,500 megawatts of clean energy to the Oklahoma grid. By matching 100% of its electricity use with renewable power and funding grid infrastructure like substations, Meta ensures its presence benefits all local consumers while supporting a greener future.
